Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed that the united opposition will reveal its presidential candidate by the first quarter of 2026, signaling the coalition’s strategic planning ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Tuesday during his end-of-year address, Kalonzo described the coalition as a government-in-waiting, emphasizing unity and shared values over individual ambitions.

“We are united not by personal ambition, but by shared values,” Kalonzo said, outlining his commitment to Kenyans that the opposition’s flagbearer will be known within the first three months of 2026.

He framed the coalition as a structured alternative to the current administration, promising a coordinated and transparent selection process.

The announcement comes amid ongoing discussions among opposition leaders who have been engaging in consultations to build consensus on the coalition’s leadership strategy.

Kalonzo indicated that the process would prioritize the interests of citizens, aiming to prevent internal divisions that have historically weakened opposition campaigns in Kenya.

Kalonzo’s remarks underscore the Wiper Party’s continued role in shaping opposition politics in Kenya.

Over the past decade, the party has been a key player in coalition-building, working closely with other opposition formations to strengthen their collective influence against the Kenya Kwanza alliance led by President William Ruto.

In addition to outlining the coalition’s electoral strategy, Kalonzo addressed broader national concerns, urging unity among Kenyans as the country navigates economic pressures including rising unemployment and the high cost of living.

He emphasized that the opposition aims to offer practical policy solutions and leadership that reflects the priorities of ordinary citizens.

The upcoming announcement of the presidential candidate is expected to trigger detailed negotiations within the coalition, balancing party interests, regional representation, and leadership ambitions.

Kalonzo’s timeline provides a structured approach to what has often been a contentious process in Kenyan politics, giving supporters a clear expectation for the next major step in the opposition’s 2027 election preparations.
