The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has launched a two-week sensitisation programme across 20 counties as part of preparations for its grassroots elections scheduled for January 10.
The exercise will be led by Party Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, the party announced in a statement on X.
Officials said the mobilisation campaign will run through the festive period and will focus on creating awareness about the upcoming elections while enhancing member participation.
The sensitisation drive is expected to cover counties in the Rift Valley, Central, Eastern and Western regions.
During a strategy meeting held at Hustler Plaza in Nairobi, Mbarire said the party remained the “political vehicle of choice,” citing victories in recent by-elections.
She noted that the grassroots polls were a key step in strengthening internal democracy and empowering members ahead of future political activities.
The meeting brought together Secretary General Hassan Omar and National Elections Board Chairperson Anthony Mwaura.
According to the party, the officials reviewed the election roadmap and agreed on a parallel recruitment campaign targeting new members across the country.
The counties scheduled to participate in the grassroots exercise include Bomet, Kakamega, Kirinyaga, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Laikipia and Nyandarua. Others are Kericho, Vihiga, Nyeri, Baringo, Nakuru, Murang’a, Trans Nzoia, Embu, Samburu and Meru.
UDA stated that the dual programme—sensitisation and membership recruitment—is aimed at boosting participation and expanding the party's presence at local levels.
The party has encouraged supporters to familiarise themselves with the polling schedule and registration procedures ahead of the January vote.
Preparations are ongoing, with the National Elections Board expected to issue additional guidelines closer to the polling date.
