On Saturday in Bondo, during the burial ceremony of the late Berly Achieng, the sister of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, a moment of unexpected drama was witnessed.
Everything was going smoothly until a group of rowdy youths, who had accompanied a certain politician, started making loud noises. Their behavior shocked many mourners who had gathered to bid farewell to Achieng.
According to the report, the youths caused chaos just when Achieng’s children were standing on the podium to give their last tribute to their late mother.
The noise from the youths disrupted the emotional moment, which angered Ida Odinga, who was present at the ceremony.
“This is a burial, not a political meeting. Respect the family,” Ida Odinga reportedly said, expressing her disappointment at the youths’ actions.
Ida Odinga condemned the behavior strongly, warning the youths that politics had no place in such a solemn event.
She challenged the noisy group to leave the burial ceremony if they could not maintain peace and respect. She added that nobody was forced to attend the burial, and those who came should honor the occasion.
“If you cannot behave, you can walk out. No one is forcing you to stay here,” she said firmly.
She went on to call for calm during the ceremony, urging the mourners to maintain respect for the grieving family. Ida Odinga noted that such behavior, especially from the youth, was unacceptable.
She reminded them that the Odinga family values peace, respect, and order during such difficult moments.
“We do not accept this kind of behavior. I am speaking as part of the Odinga family,” she added.
