As reported by one of the media houses, President William Ruto has suffered a major political blow after one of his close and once loyal allies turned against him.
The ally has openly declared that he will no longer support President Ruto and plans to challenge him in the 2027 General Election.
This development has surprised many Kenyans, especially because the individual was previously seen as a trusted supporter within the ruling camp.
Political observers say this move could weaken unity within the government as early campaigns begin to take shape.
However, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has strongly dismissed claims that President Ruto is under threat. Speaking about the 2027 elections, Cherargei said that nobody will defeat President William Ruto.
He insisted that the President remains popular across the country and that anyone planning to challenge him will fail.
According to the senator, Kenyans will still rally behind Ruto despite the emerging political noise.
In a separate statement, former ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo revealed that he has withdrawn his support for President Ruto.
Owalo said he has decided to take a new political direction and is now focusing on his own presidential ambitions.
He stated, “I have made a personal decision to pursue my own political journey, and I believe I have what it takes to lead this country.”
His remarks have sparked mixed reactions, with some Kenyans praising his courage while others accusing him of betrayal.
According to political commentators, President William Ruto should not expect any votes from Eliud Owalo going forward.
Analysts argue that Owalo’s move signals growing cracks within the ruling side. They warn that if more leaders distance themselves from the President, the 2027 race could become more competitive and unpredictable.
