Breaking News: Court Freezes Bank Accounts of Government Wamatangi, His Wife and Children

A Kenyan court has ordered the freezing of bank accounts belonging to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, his wife, children, and ten other individuals as investigations into an Sh813 million graft case deepen.

The High Court directive will remain in force until the hearing and determination of a case filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). The matter is scheduled for mention on February 4.

According to court documents, the freeze affects accounts linked to the governor, his immediate family members, and associates suspected to have played a role in facilitating or benefiting from the alleged misuse of public funds.

The decision marks a significant escalation in the legal pressure facing Wamatangi, who has been under increasing scrutiny over alleged financial misconduct linked to his tenure.

The court action comes barely a day after authorities demolished a car wash and carpet cleaning business associated with the governor near Nyayo Stadium, an operation carried out under heavy police presence.

Witnesses reported that bulldozers moved in as security officers guarded the area, a move many interpreted as a clear signal that state agencies are intensifying investigations around the governor’s affairs.

The Sh813 million corruption case is said to involve questionable payments and procurement contracts, raising concerns over how public resources were handled.

Legal experts note that freezing bank accounts at this stage of an investigation is not common and often points to the seriousness of the claims before the court.

With both the demolition of his business premises and the freezing of financial assets occurring within days, Governor Wamatangi is now facing mounting legal and political pressure, as attention turns to the February court proceedings that could shape the direction of the high-profile graft case.
