Kiambu Governor Wamatangi shocked many on Wednesday afternoon when he announced that he is stepping down from active politics. The decision came shortly after his property, valued at millions of shillings and located near Nyayo Stadium, was demolished by the government.
Speaking to journalists, the governor expressed his disappointment but vowed to remain focused on serving the people of Kiambu.
In a statement, Governor Wamatangi clarified that his temporary withdrawal from politics does not mean he is quitting forever. He revealed that he plans to return in 2027 to contest for the Kiambu governor seat again.
"This is not the end for me in politics. I will come back stronger and work to secure my seat once more," he said.
Wamatangi also addressed the attacks he has faced, claiming that his critics have been using government officers to target him and silence his voice.
"Some people want to make me disappear from the eyes of the Kiambu people so that I cannot be reelected. But I will not be intimidated," he said.
He emphasized that his focus will now shift to development projects and continuing to serve his constituents, proving through action that he remains committed to the people.
The governor expressed confidence in his achievements and track record in Kiambu.
"The work I have done speaks for itself. I believe that when I return, the people will trust me again, and I will win another term," he added.
This announcement has left many in Kiambu discussing the future of local politics and the implications of government actions on private property.
While Wamatangi steps back for now, it is clear that his political journey is far from over, and many are watching closely to see what the next chapter holds for him.
