DCI Issues Major Update About Wetang’ula's Involvement Into Jirongo's Death

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have confirmed progress in the investigation into the tragic road accident that claimed the life of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo.

DCI officials revealed that National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula is among 28 individuals who have voluntarily recorded statements with investigators as part of the extensive probe.

The exercise aims to reconstruct events leading to the crash and establish whether negligence or other factors played a role.

Jirongo, a prominent businessman and former legislator, died following a serious traffic accident that has since shocked the political class and the public alike.

Investigators are examining witness accounts, vehicle conditions, and road circumstances to determine the sequence of events and accountability.

DCI emphasized that the recording of statements does not imply culpability. Rather, it ensures a comprehensive investigation, with all involved parties treated equally under the law. Wetang’ula reportedly cooperated voluntarily during the process.

The case has reignited national debate on road safety and accountability, particularly involving influential figures. Police have urged the public to exercise patience as forensic analyses and corroboration of statements continue.

Jirongo’s passing has drawn condolences from leaders across the country, with calls for justice and improved road safety measures.

The DCI confirmed that further updates will be shared once investigations are complete and findings submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
