Where Uhuru Kenyatta Is Spending His Retirement: Four Key Homes

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, from 2013 to 2022, was marked by a complex relationship with the media, as his government implemented many provisions of Kenya’s 2010 Constitution, including Article 34, which guarantees press freedom.

As Kenyatta stepped down, discussions and speculation emerged about where he might settle in retirement, with some counties reportedly hoping to host the former president.

Here are four key properties associated with Uhuru Kenyatta where he may spend his post-presidency years:

1. Mansion Next to State House

Uhuru owns a Sh700 million mansion located adjacent to State House, built using his personal funds. The residence is fortified with bulletproof windows, electric fences, and houses several offices.

It features two wings, one with a swimming pool and the other with a helipad for receiving guests. A mini-roundabout inside the compound connects to the main driveway.

2. Gicheha Farm, Nakuru County

The former president has a vast 4,000-acre farm along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway in Nakuru County. While it functions as a major agricultural investment with over 1,000 animals, Kenyatta reportedly spends most of his retirement at his 1,000-acre Oloolmongi farm in Narok County. He continues to visit Gicheha for farm management purposes.

3. Ichaweri Family Home, Kiambu County

Uhuru’s ancestral home in Ichaweri, Gatundu South, Kiambu County, remains an important residence. It is used both as a private home and for hosting strategic political meetings.

The site carries historical significance, being closely tied to the family legacy of Kenya’s first president.

4. Maasai Mara Ranch, Narok County

The former head of state also owns a large farm and retirement home near the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Kenyatta has personal ties to the region through his great-grandfather, who married a Maasai woman.

During his time at this ranch, he even established a sub-county, highlighting his connection to the area.

As Kenyatta enjoys his post-presidency life, these properties provide both privacy and comfort while keeping him connected to his roots and political legacy.
