Popular Nairobi socialite Mathe Wa Ngara, whose real name is Nancy Indiveria Kigunzu, has claimed that she lost her village home after her title deeds were allegedly taken following government action against her assets.
Speaking about her struggles after being released from prison, Mathe said her life has been extremely difficult.
She revealed that after spending nearly one year behind bars, she returned home only to find that most of her properties were no longer under her control.
According to Mathe, unknown individuals took away her title deeds, a move that later led to the repossession of her rural home. She said the loss deeply affected her because the house was the only place she hoped to settle with her children after regaining her freedom.
The socialite further claimed that all her vehicles were confiscated, leaving her with no source of income. As a result, she said she has been unable to support her family, forcing her children to stay out of school due to lack of fees and basic necessities.
Her claims come amid court-backed actions by the Assets Recovery Agency, which previously froze and seized several properties linked to her. Investigations alleged that the assets were acquired using proceeds of crime.
Courts later approved the forfeiture of houses, vehicles, and large sums of cash after she reportedly failed to explain their source satisfactorily.
Mathe appealed to the government for forgiveness and intervention, stating that she has learned from her past mistakes and is willing to change. She asked authorities to consider her children’s welfare so they can return to school and have a stable place to live.
Her story has sparked mixed reactions among Kenyans online. While some sympathised with her situation and the impact on her children, others maintained that the law should take its course and that illegally acquired property should remain under state control.
So far, there has been no official indication that the forfeiture orders will be reversed. Legal experts say that once assets are seized through a court process, recovery is only possible through a successful appeal or the presentation of new evidence.
