Millie Odhiambo, the Suba North MP, has caused a stir after claiming that a significant sum of her MPesa money mysteriously disappeared last Christmas.
Taking to her official social media account, Odhiambo explained that she had guests over on Christmas Day. Despite her limited budget, she decided to use funds in her MPesa account to cater to them.
To her shock, she discovered that almost all her money had vanished, leaving her with only 17 shillings. She had to borrow money to continue hosting her guests.
“This Christmas I was broke—or you think we do not get broke? Anyhow, I had guests and I had money on MPESA. I decided to use it only to discover it had all been cleared by MPESA thieves. Guess what? They left a balance of 17 shillings. Wheee. I had to kopa. It looked like an inside job. MPESA I need my money back. This is Njaanuary and fees must be paid. Sawa?” Odhiambo posted.
The MP has now demanded that Safaricom investigate the incident and return her lost funds, expressing suspicion that the disappearance may have been caused internally.
The revelation has sparked online discussion, with many questioning MPesa’s security systems and the possibility of internal fraud affecting users’ money.
