Speaking during an interview on Wednesday morning, Jennifer Okalo, a woman from Kakamega County, broke down as she shared a painful experience she went through while working in Saudi Arabia.
Jennifer said she decided to travel abroad after being promised a house help job that would help her earn money to support her family in Kenya.
According to Jennifer, when she was leaving Kenya, she was confident that she was going to work as a normal house help.
However, things changed immediately after she landed in Saudi Arabia. She revealed that the job she had been promised was already being done by another woman in the house.
Jennifer said she was later informed that her duties were completely different from what she had agreed to.
She claimed that the following morning, her female employer brought several dogs into her room and shocked her by telling her that she was expected to take part in disturbing and inhumane acts involving the animals.
She added that she refused and begged to be taken back home, but her pleas were ignored.
According to Jennifer, she was threatened and forced to comply, saying she had no choice because she was in a foreign country with no passport, no money, and no one to help her.
Jennifer revealed that she endured the abuse until her contract came to an end. She later managed to escape and return to Kenya.
She is now urging Kenyan women to be very careful when searching for jobs abroad, warning that not all opportunities are genuine.
