Kindiki Hails Kenyans for Bridging Political Divides Ahead of 2026

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has praised Kenyans for easing political tensions and expanding the country’s democratic space, saying the closing of ranks among rival political groups in 2025 laid a strong foundation for national unity going into 2026.

Speaking on New Year’s Eve at the Eldoret State Lodge, Kindiki said Kenya had for many years struggled with deep political divisions that often overshadowed national development.

He noted that the tone of political engagement has begun to change, with discussions increasingly focusing on party programmes and ideas rather than hostility between opposing camps.

“For a long time, we have been a bitterly divided nation,” Kindiki said. “As we close this year, the discussions happening in the political space are about which party and which programme one side supports.”

The Deputy President pointed to improved relations between leaders aligned to President William Ruto in the 2022 elections and those who were previously in the Azimio coalition.

He described this political rapprochement as a significant milestone that has widened Kenya’s political space and reduced long-standing tensions.

According to Kindiki, the willingness of former rivals to engage has strengthened national cohesion and created room for dialogue across the political divide.

He credited Kenyans for supporting efforts aimed at reconciliation, arguing that unity remains critical for stability and development.

As Kenya enters 2026, Kindiki urged leaders and citizens to safeguard the gains made in political unity.

He said sustained dialogue and tolerance would be essential in ensuring the country remains focused on development rather than division.
