Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka has predicted that many politicians who earlier abandoned President William Ruto are set to return, claiming that opposition leaders have little to offer the country.
Speaking in Teso South during a condolence visit to the family of the late Mzee Bramwel Eshepet, father of Engineer Sidai, Lusaka said the political tide was steadily turning in favour of the Head of State.
“Those who ran away are now beginning to find their way back. I can assure you that by August, almost everyone will be back home,” Lusaka said.
The governor, who also coordinates President Ruto’s re-election campaign in Western Kenya, highlighted the President’s resilience in office, noting achievements in stabilising the economy and delivering key election pledges despite early challenges.
He argued that many politicians are rethinking their positions after realising that aligning with the national government accelerates development at the grassroots level.
“Despite devolution, a lot of development resources are still controlled by the national government. We are still a third-world country, and nobody should cheat you that simply paying taxes guarantees automatic development in your region. Your relationship with the powers that be really matters,” Lusaka said.
Lusaka also dismissed opposition efforts to unseat President Ruto, claiming they lack credibility and fresh ideas. He added that many opposition leaders are older than the President and have previously had opportunities to lead.
According to the Bungoma governor, President Ruto’s growing record of delivery is gradually winning back confidence, making his leadership increasingly attractive to those who had earlier distanced themselves from his administration.
