MP Osoro Criticizes Opposition for Too Many Closed-Door Meetings

South Mugirango MP, Sylvanus Osoro, has blasted opposition leaders for spending too much time in closed-door meetings instead of engaging with Kenyans directly.

In a post shared on his social media on Thursday, January 29, 2026, Osoro pointed out how President William Ruto is always on the ground meeting people from different backgrounds, while opposition leaders remain inside meeting rooms.

Osoro joked that if the opposition isn’t meeting, they’re probably planning their next meeting. He specifically mentioned a meeting between former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, which took place right after the united opposition leaders had another indoor gathering.

Osoro criticized the opposition's habit of meeting behind closed doors instead of connecting with the public, especially during the past six months.

The criticism comes as the United Opposition plans a two-day retreat in Naivasha to discuss key decisions, including the coalition’s name and how they will choose their presidential candidate.

Speaking about the retreat, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa said it will be a major step in forming the coalition’s structure, committees, and branding. They also plan to travel across the country to encourage young people to register as voters.
