The majority leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, has launched a scathing critique of a principal secretary in the Ministry of Education, describing him as “clueless” during a MPs retreat in Naivasha on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
Addressing Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, Ichung’wah criticized the PS for spending most of his time in Nairobi instead of actively addressing pressing education matters on the ground.
“You have the most clueless PS in the Ministry of Education, most clueless. He only sits in Nairobi and has no idea what happens on the ground. Get out of your office and go to the ground to deal with the problems,” Ichung’wah declared.
He raised concerns about corruption in schools, citing instances where parents are forced to pay for desks and lunch programmes without proper planning.
Ichung’wah called on CS Ogamba to issue a gazette notice guiding schools on standardized pricing for desks and uniforms, noting that some school heads have misused allocated funds while requesting members to buy desks through the National Government Constituency Development Funds.
CS Ogamba attended the retreat to discuss contemporary education sector issues, including the Grade 10 transition, teacher preparedness, infrastructure development, and education sector financing.
MPs had the opportunity to ask questions, highlighting the challenges faced by their constituencies.
