ODM MCA Warns Winnie Odinga: “Stop Pushing Your Luck,” Sparks Party Controversy

Fresh controversy has erupted within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) after outspoken ODM MCA Robert Alai issued a sharp warning to Winnie Odinga, cautioning her against what he termed “pushing her luck” within the party.

Alai’s remarks followed Winnie Odinga, the daughter of the late former ODM leader Raila Odinga, publicly criticising the current party leader, Senator Oburu Odinga, over the direction and leadership of ODM. Her comments have reignited debates over succession, influence, and control within the party.

“ODM isn’t a family inheritance. Winnie Odinga needs not to push her luck,” Alai said, stressing that the party was built through collective struggle, grassroots support, and sacrifice—not bloodlines.

Alai defended Senator Oburu Odinga, emphasizing that the party leader deserves respect and space to lead without constant public attacks.

He urged ODM members to resolve disagreements through established structures rather than public confrontations that could weaken the party’s image.

Winnie Odinga has recently taken a more active role in ODM politics, positioning herself as a defender of young leaders and internal democracy. While some supporters welcome her boldness as necessary for reform, others view it as destabilizing.

Alai’s warning highlights growing tensions within ODM as the party grapples with leadership questions, generational shifts, and preparations for future elections. The unfolding power struggle signals that the battle for ODM’s soul is far from over.
