Relief for Teachers as Government Confirms 5–10% Salary Increase Starting This Month

The Education Ministry has assured teachers across the country that a long-awaited salary increase of between five and ten per cent will take effect starting this month, offering relief to thousands of educators facing the rising cost of living.

Speaking during a briefing, ministry officials said the salary adjustment is part of ongoing efforts to motivate teachers and improve service delivery in schools.

The increment follows consultations with key education stakeholders and aligns with existing agreements aimed at enhancing teachers’ welfare.

According to the ministry, the pay rise will be reflected automatically in teachers’ monthly payslips, meaning no fresh applications will be required.

Officials explained that the variation between five and ten per cent will depend on job groups and years of service, with lower-paid teachers expected to benefit the most.

Teacher unions have welcomed the announcement, terming it a positive step in the right direction.

However, they maintained that more still needs to be done to fully address long-standing concerns over salaries, allowances, and working conditions.

Union leaders said they will continue engaging the government to ensure all promises made to teachers are honoured in full and implemented without delays.

The ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to the timely payment of salaries and allowances, stressing that teachers remain central to the success of ongoing education reforms.

As schools continue with the new term, many teachers hope the increment will ease financial pressure and boost morale in classrooms nationwide.
