Grief has gripped a family from Gatanga in Murang’a County after a teacher was kidnapped and later found murdered in Kiambu County.
Bernard Kinuthia Karehu, a teacher at Ng’araria Girls School, was abducted on Saturday night together with his wife.
Hours later, his lifeless body was discovered dumped along a roadside in Abbasalama area, Juja.
Police reports indicate that Karehu was shot at close range in the chest, just below his right upper arm. His t-shirt was soaked in blood, confirming he had been murdered before being abandoned at the scene.
The body was later taken to the mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to provide more details about the killing.
Family members revealed that before Karehu’s body was found, his wife managed to make a desperate phone call. She pleaded for KSh20,000 to save her life.
She sounded scared and claimed they were in danger. Since then, her whereabouts remain unknown, and her disappearance has deepened fears that she may also be a victim of the same criminal gang.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether her abduction is linked to ransom demands or other motives.
Detectives have revisited both the site of the kidnapping and the location where the body was dumped. They are interviewing relatives and colleagues to determine if Karehu had any disputes that could have led to the attack.
Authorities have urged anyone with information that could help the investigation to come forward. As the search for Karehu’s wife continues, the family remains in anguish, hoping for answers and closure.
