Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, joined mourners on Saturday, January 24, in Wekhoya village, Maili Saba, Kiminini Constituency, Trans Nzoia County, for the burial of his political ally, the late Hon. Johnstone Barasa Murunga.
Murunga, a former Councillor and Education Officer, was remembered for his dedication to public service and his efforts to improve the lives of his constituents. His work in education and local governance left a lasting impact on the community.
Prominent leaders who attended the ceremony included Susan Nakhumicha, Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat, and former Cabinet Secretary Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, alongside several Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from the region.
During the burial, mourners highlighted Murunga’s integrity, work ethic, and unwavering commitment to public service, recalling his initiatives in education and youth empowerment programs in Kiminini.
Family members expressed gratitude for the support shown during their time of grief, noting that the large turnout reflected the widespread respect Murunga earned throughout his career.
Speaker Wetangula and other leaders offered condolences and reaffirmed their admiration for a life dedicated to service.
