Ali Nuno Dubat Issues Stern Warning to Coastal Criminals

A feared police officer known for cracking down on criminal gangs has issued a strict warning to thugs who recently robbed a fellow officer of a firearm.

Ali Nuno Dubat, remembered for neutralizing notorious gangs such as Gaza and Mungiki in Nairobi’s Eastlands while serving as OCPD Kayole, has now been promoted to serve as Coast Regional Police Commander in a major reshuffle of senior police leadership.

Nuno takes over from George Sedah, who was transferred to Nairobi to replace the long-serving regional commander Adamson Bungei. The reshuffle, announced by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, aims to strengthen operations across the National Police Service (NPS).

Tough Stance Against Crime

Speaking amid concerns over rising crime in the coastal region, Nuno warned that suspects who threaten the public with weapons risk being shot. He emphasized that criminals have only two options: reform or leave the area.

“You have only two options. Desist and accept salvation, or move out of the entire coastal region,” said Nuno, who holds the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP).

Nuno’s reputation as a no-nonsense officer is backed by a history of deployments to high-pressure areas, where he has consistently prioritized public safety. His command history includes:
County Police Commander, Kwale – before January 2025
Coast Regional Police Commander – appointed January 2025

A veteran of the National Police Service, Nuno was awarded the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW) on December 12, 2018, in recognition of his distinguished service.

Residents and police observers note that his promotion to the coast—a region with rising criminal activity—is a strategic move to ensure law enforcement maintains a firm grip on public security.

Nuno’s track record shows that his presence in any troubled area signals a serious crackdown on crime, reflecting his reputation as one of Kenya’s toughest and most respected police officers.
