Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has revealed that he cautioned ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna before the swearing-in of Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as the party leader, predicting that the move would spark internal turmoil within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Speaking during a radio interview on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Amisi claimed he foresaw the party divisions currently unfolding and advised Sifuna against presiding over Oburu’s installation.
“We hear they want to remove Edwin Sifuna as SG, and I warned him before. He shouldn’t have sworn in Oburu Odinga as the ODM party leader,” Amisi stated.
Heightened Factional Tensions
The warning comes as ODM’s National Executive Council (NEC) convenes in Mombasa to deliberate on the party’s political strategy amid deepening internal rifts.
The leadership has pitched camp in the coastal region under the banner of Linda Ground, aiming to consolidate support and chart a unified path forward.
However, the move has unfolded against a backdrop of factional rivalry. Sifuna leads a parallel wing called Linda Mwananchi, which recently held a large rally in Busia on February 8, 2026.
Reports suggest the event exposed simmering differences within the party and was not well received by members aligned with rival factions.
Divergence on Party Strategy
Amisi’s remarks highlight the ongoing tensions between party members over ODM’s engagement with President William Ruto’s administration.
Sifuna’s positions, seen by some as diverging from the official party stance, have intensified the internal wrangles.
The outcome of the NEC meeting is expected to determine whether ODM can mend its divisions or whether factional disputes will deepen as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
