Former IEBC Commissioner Roselyn Akombe Urges Caution Over Support for Edwin Sifuna

Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Commissioner Roselyn Akombe has advised Kenyans to exercise caution before backing Senator Edwin Sifuna, warning that growing public support for the politician may be misleading.

Akombe, who now resides abroad, issued the warning following a Linda Mwananchi Tour rally in Kitengela on February 15, where Sifuna attracted large crowds.

She suggested that the enthusiasm for Sifuna could be part of a broader political strategy, potentially linked to President William Ruto, and that rallies are often used by politicians to craft public narratives while their real intentions remain hidden.

“Politicians often stage public events to influence perception, but ordinary citizens may not be aware of behind-the-scenes deals,” Akombe said, urging voters to stay informed and critically evaluate political developments rather than be swayed by popularity or media attention.

Her remarks sparked debate online, with supporters of Sifuna highlighting his track record in accountability and governance reforms, while others echoed Akombe’s caution, stressing the need for vigilance ahead of the 2027 General Election.

As Kenya approaches another electoral cycle, discussions around Sifuna’s alliances, strategies, and political ambitions are expected to intensify.

Akombe’s intervention adds a critical perspective on how voters engage with emerging leaders and the importance of understanding the broader political context before rallying behind any figure.
