Motorists using Thika Superhighway were on Monday morning caught in heavy traffic following a road accident that disrupted the smooth flow of vehicles along the busy highway.
Reports indicate that a section of the superhighway was temporarily blocked after a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu was involved in an accident.
Photos circulating online show the matatu lying on its side in the middle of the road, drawing a large crowd and significantly slowing traffic.
The incident caused a major snarl-up, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded for hours as authorities worked to manage the situation and clear the roadway. The exact cause of the accident has not yet been established.
Officials from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are expected to provide further details once investigations are complete.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while approaching the affected area and to consider alternative routes where possible.
The latest incident comes amid growing concern over the rising number of road accidents reported across the country, many of which have been linked to human error, speeding, and failure to observe traffic regulations.
Authorities continue to appeal to drivers to remain vigilant, adhere to road safety rules, and prioritize the safety of all road users as investigations into the crash continue.
