Dr Amakove Wala Joins Vihiga Women Rep Race, Promises Systems Change in 2027 Showdown

Political temperatures in Vihiga County are beginning to rise ahead of the 2027 General Election after renowned medic and social media commentator Amakove Wala declared her bid for the County Women Representative seat.

Dr Wala made the announcement through her Facebook page, signaling her intention to succeed the current Women Representative, Beatrice Adagala.

“I am running for Vihiga County Women Representative. This seat is not about being known — it is about changing how systems work for women,” she posted, positioning her campaign around institutional reform and women-focused policies rather than popularity.

A graduate of the University of Nairobi, Dr Wala holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). She further advanced her studies at the University of London, earning a Master’s degree in Medical Physiology.

Her entry into the race is expected to reshape the political landscape in the county, setting the stage for a competitive contest that could see her square off with lawyer Ruth Ambogo, who is also eyeing the seat.

Meanwhile, Beatrice Adagala has declared her interest in vying for the Vihiga gubernatorial seat in 2027, opening up the Women Representative position.

The governor’s race itself is expected to be competitive, as the current county boss, Wilber Otichillo, prepares to exit office after serving the constitutional two-term limit since 2017.

Dr Wala’s transition from medicine and social commentary into elective politics reflects a growing trend of professionals seeking public office.

As campaigns gradually begin to take shape, residents of Vihiga County can expect an energized contest focused on leadership, governance reforms, and women’s representation.

With two years to the polls, the battle lines are already being drawn, and Dr Wala’s candidacy adds a new dynamic to what is shaping up to be a closely watched race.
