President Ruto Presides Over Inaugural Graduation at National Intelligence and Research University

President William Ruto, alongside CS Kipchumba Murkomen and Julius Migos, presided over the first graduation ceremony of the National Intelligence and Research University (NIRU) in Nairobi on Tuesday, February 17.

A Milestone for Intelligence and Security Education

As Chancellor of the university, President Ruto emphasized Kenya’s dedication to providing innovative and sustainable solutions to security challenges at national, continental, and global levels. 

The ceremony celebrated graduates from Kenya and 21 other African nations, reflecting the country’s growing role as a regional hub for intelligence and strategic security collaboration.

CS Murkomen commended the university’s leadership for establishing a world-class centre of excellence. 

He highlighted the contributions of Board of Trustees Chair and Director General Noordin Haji, and Vice Chancellor Dr. James Kibon for creating a robust academic and operational framework.

Intelligence-Led Initiatives in National Security
Murkomen underscored the importance of intelligence-driven strategies in tackling national security challenges. 

He cited successful operations against banditry, illicit alcohol and drug trafficking, and other emerging criminal threats, stressing the role of surveillance and inter-agency coordination.

Graduates were congratulated for their commitment to public service and are expected to contribute significantly to national and continental security, supporting Africa’s vision of a safer, knowledge-driven approach to security.

Attendees and Regional Impact

The event drew senior officials, including PS Beatrice Inyangala, Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak of Science, Research and Innovation, National Assembly Committee Chair Nelson Koech, Inspector General Douglas Kanja, and DIG-APS Gilbert Masengeli.

The ceremony also highlighted Kenya’s role in fostering regional and international cooperation in intelligence, research, and strategic leadership.
