A cloud of sorrow has engulfed Kapsoo Village in Mosombor Sub-location, Nandi County, after the brutal killing of Nixon Kipkemei, a young university graduate, in Turkana County.
Nixon, a recent graduate of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, had completed his course with an Upper Division. Like many young Kenyans, he travelled to Lodwar in search of employment opportunities shortly after graduation, hoping to support his family back home.
According to local sources, Nixon was working with a friend installing solar systems when they were ambushed by suspected armed bandits. During the attack, Nixon was fatally injured, while his colleague managed to escape into nearby bushes and later sought help from a passing lorry driver.
News of Nixon’s death has plunged his family and the entire village into deep mourning. Residents described him as a hardworking, humble, and focused young man whose aspirations were a source of hope for his loved ones.
His family revealed that they had made painful sacrifices over the years to educate him, often going without basic needs to ensure he could stay in school. Nixon’s death has left a huge void in the community, which had pinned high hopes on his success.
The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the risks faced by young professionals seeking opportunities in remote areas and the vulnerability of communities to banditry and insecurity.
