James Orengo delivered a bold and uncompromising speech during the Linda Mwananchi rally held at Tononoka Grounds in Mombasa County, sharply criticizing the current state of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Addressing a large and energized crowd, Orengo alleged that President William Ruto has significantly weakened the party by influencing sections of its leadership.
In his remarks, Orengo declared: “Ruto ameua chama cha ODM! Watu wetu wengi wanapatiwa pesa na Ruto. Lakini jeshi la Raila Odinga tuko imara.”
He accused certain ODM leaders of accepting financial incentives in exchange for supporting the government, arguing that such actions compromise the party’s core values and betray its loyal supporters.
His speech was met with loud cheers and chants from attendees, reflecting growing enthusiasm for the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Orengo shared the platform with other prominent figures including Edwin Sifuna, Babu Owino, and Godfrey Osotsi, all of whom have been vocal about political accountability and reform.
Despite what he described as deliberate attempts to weaken ODM from within, Orengo maintained that the faction aligned with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga remains united and resilient.
He urged supporters to stay engaged and continue backing the Linda Mwananchi movement, which he framed as a platform committed to defending citizens’ rights and promoting transparent governance.
Observers say Orengo’s remarks appear aimed at reinvigorating grassroots support within ODM while drawing a clear line between leaders loyal to Raila Odinga and those perceived to be working closely with the Kenya Kwanza administration, particularly as attention shifts toward the 2027 General Election.
The Mombasa rally has further exposed internal tensions within ODM, with influential leaders openly challenging the party’s current direction while building momentum for an alternative political trajectory under the Linda Mwananchi banner.
