KDF Deployed to Igembe Central to Curb Banditry

Kithure Kindiki has announced that the government will deploy Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to Igembe Central for at least 14 days to address rising banditry in the area.

The move comes after repeated attacks by bandits in Makulubaine and Kaongo, which left two people dead and over 150 livestock stolen. Speaking in Imenti South on Saturday, March 21, Kindiki stated that President William Ruto had sanctioned the deployment to support police operations in the region.

Kindiki said, “The president has ordered the KDF soldiers to leave other engagements to camp here in Nyambene. The Cabinet Secretary for Interior will be here, and I will also be camping here to witness the operation. We can't be living in a country where bandits are terrorising civilians and stealing livestock. Give us two weeks to restore calm.”

Meanwhile, former Mithika Linturi announced plans to file a court case and organise five days of peaceful demonstrations calling for justice, protection, and compensation for victims.

Linturi accused Kindiki and other leaders of prioritizing 2027 political ambitions over addressing ongoing insecurity in Meru.

The deployment of KDF troops aims to restore order and safeguard residents, while authorities continue to monitor and respond to criminal activities in the region.
