Former Nyeri Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu has alleged that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been attempting to reconnect with President William Ruto amid growing political tensions.
Claims Raised by Governor Waiguru
According to reports, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru made the claims while speaking about the upcoming general elections during a public address.
Waiguru alleged that Gachagua and some of his allies have been reaching out to President Ruto, asking to be included in political discussions.
She claimed the group had promised to reduce the criticism and insults directed at the government if they were allowed back into political engagements.
Remarks During Public Address
In a video circulating on social media, Waiguru was seen addressing residents and urging them to support leaders aligned with the government.
She also warned voters against electing a governor from the opposition, arguing that such a move would not benefit residents.
“The party of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been declining. Latest polls show it is losing popularity. Rigathi and his people have been reaching out to President William Ruto,” Waiguru said.
Wambugu Backs the Claims
Following the governor’s remarks, Ngunjiri Wambugu shared a message on Facebook saying that Waiguru had confirmed what he had been telling his followers for some time.
According to Wambugu, the governor’s statement supports earlier claims that Gachagua’s political camp may be seeking renewed engagement with the President.
The remarks come amid shifting political alliances as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
