Rigathi Gachagua Confronted With Medical Appeal as Murang’a County Woman Seeks KSh 4 Million for Daughter’s Surgery

A dramatic moment unfolded during a church event in Murang’a County after a woman approached former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with a medical appeal card requesting financial help for her daughter’s treatment.

The incident reportedly occurred during a church gathering in Gatanga Constituency, where Gachagua had attended a religious service alongside local leaders and residents.

As the event progressed, the woman managed to reach the former deputy president and handed him a card containing details about her daughter’s medical condition and the financial assistance required for treatment.

According to the information shared during the gathering, the family is seeking approximately KSh 4 million to enable the young woman to undergo a specialized head surgery in Nairobi.

The condition reportedly affects her hearing and head, making the procedure critical to improving her health and overall quality of life.

Gachagua read the contents of the appeal card aloud to the congregation, explaining that the woman’s daughter had been struggling with serious medical complications that had already led to hearing problems.

The emotional moment drew the attention of many congregants attending the service, with some visibly moved by the mother’s plea. The situation highlighted the financial challenges many families face when dealing with serious medical conditions.

While responding to the appeal, Gachagua expressed concern about the increasing number of medical fundraisers taking place across the country. He noted that many families depend on well-wishers and community contributions to afford specialized medical treatment.

During his remarks, he also questioned the effectiveness of the country’s healthcare system, particularly the Social Health Authority, which was recently introduced to improve access to medical services.

According to him, many Kenyans are still struggling to access affordable healthcare despite ongoing reforms.

The former deputy president added that similar appeals are frequently made during church gatherings and community meetings, where leaders are often asked to help mobilize financial support for patients in need.

Specialized medical procedures, especially those involving implants or complex head surgeries, can cost millions of shillings depending on the hospital, equipment required, and post-surgery care.

The woman’s decision to personally hand the appeal card to Gachagua reflected the desperation many families experience when seeking life-saving treatment for their loved ones.

As the story spread online, many Kenyans expressed sympathy for the family and called for support to help the young woman receive the treatment she urgently needs.
