Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has declared that rallies organised under the Linda Mwananchi movement will proceed as planned despite attempts by police to disrupt them.
Speaking during an interview on K24 TV on Monday, March 2, 2026, Sifuna said members of the movement had resolved not to be intimidated by the use of tear gas or other crowd-control measures.
He stated that the group remains determined to continue engaging the public and will not allow their meetings to be scattered.
The senator criticised security agencies for what he described as heavy-handed tactics, arguing that such actions undermine citizens’ constitutional rights to assemble and express their views.
He referred to a recent rally in Kakamega where confrontations reportedly occurred. According to Sifuna, several young people believed to have links with government operatives were injured during the incident.
He further claimed that some individuals were allegedly found with handcuffs and tear gas canisters, raising questions about their role at the gathering.
Sifuna expressed concern that those arrested or injured in the chaos had not been thoroughly investigated to determine who may have sent them. He warned that failure to clarify these issues could deepen public suspicion and erode trust in security agencies.
In a defiant tone, Sifuna maintained that no tactics would deter the movement from holding its forums nationwide.
He emphasised that the Linda Mwananchi initiative remains focused on its agenda and will continue organising meetings across the country, regardless of obstacles placed in its path.
