The controversy began after Mbadi reportedly stated that Kenya had entered a “post-Raila era” and urged ODM leaders to move on and focus on the future instead of depending on Raila Odinga’s influence. His remarks quickly triggered debate among party supporters and senior leaders.
Speaking during a public event, Ida Odinga appeared to dismiss Mbadi’s statements, saying some politicians become too excited thinking Raila is gone, yet his legacy and influence still remain strong in Kenya’s politics. She insisted that great leaders never truly disappear as long as their ideas and history continue shaping society.
Mama Ida further stated that Raila’s political contribution cannot simply be erased, adding that many leaders still draw lessons from his legacy and years of sacrifice in the country’s democratic struggles.
Her remarks add to growing tensions within ODM, where several leaders have recently clashed over the future direction of the party following Raila Odinga’s death in October 2025.
Earlier, Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga also criticized Mbadi over similar remarks, accusing him of disrespecting the Odinga family’s political history and sacrifices made during Kenya’s struggle for multiparty democracy.
At the same time, EALA MP Winnie Odinga recently attacked Mbadi for allegedly politicising the National Treasury, further exposing widening divisions among ODM loyalists.
The exchange has now fueled speculation about possible succession battles and internal power struggles within ODM as different factions position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Overall, Ida Odinga’s response has reignited debate over Raila Odinga’s enduring political legacy and the future leadership of ODM in the post-Raila era.
