Motorists using Ngong Road in Nairobi are set to face major traffic disruptions after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced a temporary partial closure near the Junction Mall area.
According to KURA, the affected section along the Ngong Road and Naivasha Road junction will be partially closed from Monday, May 18, to Sunday, May 31, 2026, as contractors carry out final asphalt works on the ongoing flyover project.
The closure will only take place at night between 8pm and 4am to minimise daytime traffic congestion. During the works, motorists are expected to use alternative routes and follow directions from traffic police officers and marshals deployed at the site.
KURA said the works form part of the final finishing stages of the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road Flyover project, which has been under construction for months to ease traffic congestion around the busy Junction Mall corridor.
The flyover is among several major infrastructure projects being implemented by KURA to improve urban mobility and reduce traffic jams within Nairobi. Earlier this year, the authority also announced several temporary disruptions along the same corridor to facilitate deck concreting and installation works.
President William Ruto previously revealed that the project was expected to be completed by June 2026 after inspecting the site earlier in the year.
Motorists have now been advised to plan their travel early, especially during evening hours, as traffic build-up is expected around the affected area throughout the two-week closure period.
Overall, the temporary closure marks the final stretch of one of Nairobi’s biggest road improvement projects aimed at easing congestion along the busy Ngong Road corridor.
