NYS, Police Lead Massive Nairobi Clean-Up After Floods Leave Trail of Destruction

A major clean-up operation has been launched in Nairobi following heavy floods that have caused widespread damage across the city.

The government has deployed the National Youth Service (NYS) alongside the police to take charge of the exercise, which aims to clear waste, unblock drainage systems, and restore normal conditions in affected areas.

The clean-up is part of a coordinated multi-agency response as authorities move to address the impact of the ongoing rains, which have led to flooding, poor sanitation, and increased waste in many parts of the capital.

Officials say the operation will focus on areas hardest hit by floods, where drainage systems have been overwhelmed and roads covered with debris. The effort is also meant to prevent further health risks, especially diseases that can spread due to stagnant water and poor sanitation.

The move comes as Nairobi continues to experience heavy rainfall that has disrupted transport, flooded homes, and left many residents stranded in different estates.

Authorities have urged residents to cooperate with the teams on the ground and take precautions as the rains continue, warning that more flooding could occur before conditions improve.

Overall, the clean-up marks an urgent effort by the government to restore order in the city and reduce the impact of the ongoing flood crisis.
