SHOCK at UoN as Students Threaten Strike Over Delayed VC Appointment

Students at the University of Nairobi have issued a strong warning, threatening to go on strike over delays in appointing a substantive vice chancellor and other top officials.

Through their student leadership, they say the long-standing leadership gap has disrupted learning and created uncertainty within the institution.

According to the students, interviews for the vice chancellor and deputy positions were already conducted, but the appointment process has stalled without any clear explanation. This delay has increased frustration among learners who fear the situation could worsen.

They have now called on Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba to urgently intervene and ensure that a permanent leadership team is put in place.

The leadership crisis has persisted for months, with key positions being held in acting capacity, affecting decision-making and normal university operations.

Students warned that if their demands are not addressed quickly, they will disrupt classes through protests or a full strike.

The standoff highlights rising tension at one of Kenya’s top universities, as pressure mounts on authorities to restore stability and avoid a major disruption to learning.
