Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said the recruitment and training of new police officers will strengthen Kenya’s security capacity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Murkomen spoke on Friday, September 18, 2026, during a passing-out parade for newly trained police recruits at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘B’ Campus in Nairobi. President William Ruto presided over the ceremony.
The CS said the newly trained officers had increased the strength of the National Police Service and improved its preparedness to respond to security challenges across the country.
He said the additional officers would also contribute to preparations for next year’s General Election, when security agencies are expected to provide protection and maintain public order.
The recruits underwent several months of training designed to prepare them for police duties, including developing professional skills, discipline and resilience required while serving the public.
Murkomen thanked the government for providing the resources needed to recruit and train the officers. He said strengthening the police service was important in ensuring that officers had the capacity required to perform their constitutional responsibilities.
The latest group joins other officers who have recently completed training as the government continues implementing reforms within the National Police Service.
The government has also highlighted improvements in police training, equipment, housing, healthcare and technology as part of its wider programme to strengthen the service.
The new officers are expected to be deployed to different parts of the country after completing their training.
Their deployment comes as political activity increases ahead of the 2027 General Election, with security preparedness becoming an important part of the government’s planning for the polls.
