President William Ruto has travelled to Lusaka, Zambia, to attend the inauguration of President Hakainde Hichilema for his second five-year term.
Ruto arrived in Zambia on Tuesday, September 1, alongside Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, joining other regional leaders expected to attend the ceremony.
Hichilema is scheduled to take the oath of office at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka after securing re-election in Zambia’s August 13, 2026 General Election.
Ruto had earlier congratulated Hichilema following his victory, describing the election outcome as a reflection of the confidence Zambians had placed in his leadership.
The Kenyan President also expressed his desire to strengthen the longstanding relationship between Kenya and Zambia during Hichilema’s second term.
Ruto’s visit highlights the close ties between the two countries and Kenya’s continued engagement with Zambia on regional and bilateral matters.
The inauguration is expected to bring together several African leaders and other dignitaries as Hichilema begins his second term in office.
Ruto’s attendance also provides an opportunity for Kenya to strengthen diplomatic relations and explore areas of cooperation with Zambia.
Hichilema first assumed the Zambian presidency in 2021 after defeating then-incumbent President Edgar Lungu. His latest electoral victory gives him another five-year mandate to lead the country.
