Citizen TV journalist and Nyakach parliamentary aspirant Trevor Ombija has claimed that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua tried to have him removed from his job following a heated television interview.
Ombija made the claim on Friday, September 18, while addressing residents in Nyakach as he campaigns for the parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
According to Ombija, Gachagua contacted the management of Royal Media Services (RMS) and sought his dismissal after the two disagreed during an interview in March 2026.
Ombija said the disagreement became serious after he challenged Gachagua during the live interview. He further claimed that his ethnic background was brought into the disagreement surrounding his position at the media company.
The claims come months after a tense exchange between the two during a televised interview. Gachagua accused Ombija of being biased and unprofessional, while questioning the manner in which the questions were being presented.
Gachagua also criticised the programme during the interview, describing it as a “tribal show” while discussing allegations of tribal politics. Ombija, however, maintained that Gachagua had requested the interview.
Ombija has since moved into active politics and announced his intention to contest the Nyakach parliamentary seat in 2027.
The journalist has also publicly expressed support for President William Ruto and his broad-based government arrangement.
However, Ombija’s claim that Gachagua contacted RMS management to have him fired has not been independently verified. Neither Gachagua nor RMS had responded to the allegation at the time of publication.
