UK Issues Fresh Travel Advisory for Kenya After Ebola Case Confirmed

The United Kingdom has issued a fresh travel advisory for Kenya following confirmation of the country’s first imported case of Ebola.

The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has urged British citizens planning to travel to affected parts of Kenya to reconsider their plans, while those already in the country have been advised to remain cautious and follow guidance from Kenyan health authorities.

The advisory comes after Kenya confirmed its first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola on October 6, 2026.

According to the UK government, Kenya has introduced several measures aimed at containing the disease, including contact tracing, increased surveillance, screening at points of entry and quarantine arrangements for people considered to be at risk.

British travellers arriving in Kenya may also face additional health screening, particularly those coming from countries including Uganda, Ethiopia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Ebola case involved a Kenyan man who had been living in the DRC for several years before travelling by road to Uganda and later flying to Nairobi.

After arriving in Kenya, he was taken to hospital and isolated after developing symptoms. He later tested positive for the Bundibugyo Ebola virus and died on October 5.

Kenyan health authorities have since intensified contact tracing and surveillance as they work to identify people who may have been exposed to the patient. Officials have also increased screening at major entry points, including Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The UK has advised its citizens in Kenya to follow instructions from local authorities and continue monitoring official updates as the health situation develops.

The advisory comes as Kenya works with international health agencies to strengthen measures aimed at preventing further transmission of the virus.
