Embakasi East MP Babu Owino visited Opoda Farm in Bondo, Siaya County, on Wedneday to pay tribute to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

The lawmaker also spent time at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, a site closely associated with the Odinga family’s history.

During the visit, Owino presented Mama Ida Odinga with a Holy Bible, describing it as “a sacred compass to illuminate her path, strengthen her spirit, and a wellspring of light for every bend in her journey.”

The MP also offered bulls, a traditional symbol of respect and a gesture signifying honor in many Kenyan communities.

Raila Odinga, who served as Kenya’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and led the opposition for decades, passed away earlier this month.

His political career spanned several decades, including multiple bids for the presidency, and he played a central role in Kenya’s constitutional reform processes, including the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.

Owino’s visit reflects both personal admiration and recognition of Raila Odinga’s political influence. In his statement, the MP said, “May Baba’s soul rest in peace,” signaling solidarity with the Odinga family during a period of national mourning.

The gesture also highlights the continued respect for Raila’s legacy within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and among younger leaders who worked alongside him.

The late former PM’s homestead in Siaya has historically been a hub for political discussions and grassroots mobilization, underscoring his enduring influence in Nyanza politics.

Leaders from across Kenya have made condolence visits, reflecting Raila’s prominence as a national figure whose impact extended beyond his home region.

The Odinga family has continued to receive dignitaries and supporters at Opoda Farm, reinforcing the site’s role as both a private residence and a symbolic location for national remembrance.
