The Odinga family has confirmed the sudden passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga, daughter of Kenya’s late political pioneer Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Mama Mary Ajuma Oginga.

The announcement came on Monday through social media, where her sister, Ruth Odinga, shared the news with family and followers.

Beryl, who was a mother to Ami Auma, Chizi, and Taurai, is survived by siblings including former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Senator Oburu Oginga, and Akinyi Wenwa.

She was also sister-in-law to prominent figures such as Dr Anne Oburu, Dr Canon Ida Odinga, Hon Tabu Osewe, and Judy Oburu, connecting her to a network of influential political and civic leaders.

Ruth Odinga’s statement expressed the family’s grief while highlighting their faith. She emphasized that although her passing leaves a significant void, the family draws comfort from the belief that Beryl is “safe in the Lord’s arms.”

Ruth also noted the impact Beryl had on those who knew her and the cherished moments shared with family.

Former personal assistant to Raila Odinga, Silas Jakakimba, conveyed condolences to the Odinga family. In his statement, he revealed that he had recently spoken with Ruth Odinga regarding Beryl’s health and had prayed for her recovery.

Jakakimba said, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Odinga family. May Beryl’s soul eternally rest in the Lord,” and added that the family could find solace in the memories of her life.

Beryl Odinga’s death comes at a time when the Odinga family remains a central fixture in Kenya’s political landscape. The family has historically played key roles in the development of the opposition and democratic movements, with members actively engaged in national and regional politics.

Her passing is expected to draw tributes from political colleagues, civic leaders, and the public who have followed the family’s contributions over the decades.
