Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has publicly extended condolences to the Odinga family following the death of Beryl Achieng Odinga, a younger sister of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a statement posted on X, Kingi also addressed Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga and other family members, acknowledging the weight of the loss during an already difficult period for the family.

The passing of Beryl Achieng Odinga comes only weeks after the death of Raila Odinga, who was a towering figure in Kenya’s political landscape and the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Kingi described the timing as especially challenging for the family and offered prayers for strength and solace.

“I convey my heartfelt condolences to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family. I pray for God’s comfort and fortitude upon the Odinga family at this very difficult moment. May the soul of Beryl Achieng Odinga rest in peace,” Kingi said in his statement.

Beryl Achieng Odinga had maintained a largely private life, though she was known for supporting her family’s political and social activities.

Her death has attracted attention from various political figures, reflecting the Odinga family’s enduring influence in Kenya’s governance and regional politics, particularly in Nyanza, a region historically aligned with ODM.

Dr Oburu Oginga, the elder brother and current Senator for Siaya, is leading the family in mourning.

The Odingas are a politically prominent family, descending from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President, whose legacy continues to shape regional and national political developments.

Details regarding funeral arrangements have not yet been released. Close associates and family members are expected to provide updates as preparations proceed.

The loss of Beryl Achieng Odinga underscores a period of grief for the Odinga family and highlights the continuing public interest in their personal and political journey.

Leaders like Kingi have emphasized unity and support during this period, reflecting the respect the family commands across Kenya’s political spectrum.
