Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei is facing heavy criticism online after questioning Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s visit to the late Raila Odinga’s grave in Bondo, Siaya County. Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru led the backlash, calling the senator’s remarks disrespectful and childish.
Cherargei had accused Kalonzo of pretending to mourn Raila despite allegedly betraying him in 2007.
“Kalonzo should stop pontificating himself in the death of Baba Raila Odinga yet he didn’t stand with him when it mattered,” Cherargei wrote on X.
He went on to describe Kalonzo as “a calculative opportunist that the Luo Nation must shun.”
Njiru, a close ally of Kalonzo, hit back with a fiery response.
“By visiting the Oponda farm, His Excellency Kalonzo Musyoka confirmed his true friendship with the late hero Raila Amollo Odinga,” Njiru said.
He added that the visit was a genuine act of respect to both the Odinga family and the Luo nation.
The outspoken lawyer didn’t mince words in addressing Cherargei directly.
“You were still soiling your diapers when SKM was establishing his long-lasting relationship with Baba,” he wrote, telling the senator to respect his elders.
Njiru also backed Siaya Governor James Orengo’s statement that no man can claim to have loved Baba more than Kalonzo Musyoka.
Kalonzo’s visit to Raila’s Bondo home has since turned into a political talking point, drawing praise from his supporters and criticism from his rivals.
The Wiper leader, a longtime ally of the Odinga family, was among several national figures who travelled to Siaya to pay tribute to Raila following his death.
