Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested a former employee of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for allegedly forging academic documents to secure a promotion.
According to EACC, the suspect is accused of presenting a fake Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies and Public Administration, purportedly issued by Moi University.
Following the report, EACC investigators launched a probe which confirmed that the certificate was falsified and knowingly presented as authentic.
“The investigations established that the academic document was forged and fraudulently submitted as genuine,” EACC stated.
After concluding investigations, the Commission forwarded the file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who approved the suspect’s prosecution.
The former IEBC staff member was arrested on Wednesday, November 19, and arraigned the following day at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
He was charged with several counts, including forgery under Sections 345 and 349 of the Penal Code, uttering a false document under Section 353, and deceiving a principal.
The suspect pleaded not guilty and was released on a cash bail of Ksh200,000 or a bond of Ksh500,000 with one surety of a similar amount.
EACC has since warned public servants and job seekers against falsifying academic qualifications, emphasizing its ongoing crackdown on fraudulent employment practices within government institutions.
The anti-graft agency noted that the arrest is part of a broader operation targeting officials who use fake documents to obtain jobs or promotions.
Just two weeks ago, EACC apprehended a Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company employee accused of forging a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) to secure employment and illegally pocket over Ksh6.2 million in public funds.
