Ethiopian scholar Moges Zewdu Teshome has praised President William Ruto for his communication skills and defense of democratic principles during a recent interview with Al Jazeera.

In a statement shared on Facebook, Moges described Ruto as “wit and a good communicator” who effectively engages international media.

Moges highlighted the Kenyan leader’s openness to criticism, noting that Ruto acknowledged newspapers’ right to scrutinize his governance.

“You cannot underestimate his media savvy stature,” he wrote, adding that such engagement demonstrates a firm commitment to democratic ideals.

The scholar contrasted Kenya’s political climate with that of Ethiopia, suggesting that while some Kenyans express frustration with their president, the country has achieved significant democratic progress compared to its neighbors.

“The grass is greener on the other side,” Moges commented, praising Kenya’s development and governance achievements.

President Ruto’s interview with Al Jazeera covered multiple topics, including governance, economic policy, and press freedom.

Media analysts say effective communication with international outlets can influence a country’s image abroad, attract investment, and strengthen democratic norms.

Ruto’s approach has sparked mixed reactions domestically, with some citizens critical of his policies while others view his media engagement as a positive sign of transparency.

Moges’s remarks underline a broader recognition of Kenya’s evolving democratic landscape and the role of leaders in promoting free press and open dialogue.
