Siaya Governor James Orengo has praised the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for its recent leadership restructuring, describing the appointment of Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga as Party Leader as a key step in strengthening the party’s internal management.
Orengo made the remarks after attending the National Governing Council (NGC) meeting at Swahili Pot in Mombasa, where interim party officials were approved.
Speaking on X, he said the gathering marked “a great milestone in the management of our party affairs” and highlighted ODM’s resilience and unity.
“The party stands tall, united, resilient, and still the most powerful movement in the land,” Orengo posted, emphasizing the continued strength of ODM as Kenya’s main opposition party.
The NGC approved Oburu Oginga to lead the party, with Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and MP John Osoti named as Deputy Party Leaders.
Dr. Otiende Amollo and Dr. Ariko Namoit were appointed Vice Chairpersons, while Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga and Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu assumed roles as Deputy Organizing Secretary and Secretary for Political Affairs, respectively.
These appointments await final ratification by the National Delegates Convention (NDC).
Orengo, who has been a central figure in ODM since its founding, framed the changes as a demonstration of the party’s ability to adapt while maintaining cohesion.
His endorsement signals confidence among senior leaders that the new executive lineup will enhance organizational efficiency and political influence across Kenya.
The NGC is ODM’s key decision-making body, with authority to approve senior appointments before they are presented to the NDC for confirmation.
