Nairobi Women Representative Esther Passaris has urged Kenyans to exercise their voting rights responsibly as by-elections take place on Thursday, 27 November 2025, in several constituencies including Magarini, Mbeere North, Ugunja, and Malava.

The lawmaker called on voters to participate in large numbers while maintaining peace and order throughout the electoral process.

Passaris highlighted that voting is a constitutional right that should be exercised freely, without fear or intimidation.

She expressed confidence in the security agencies, led by the National Police Service, to safeguard voters and ensure a secure environment during polling.

The lawmaker also emphasized the role of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in upholding the principles of free, fair, and transparent elections.

“We trust that the IEBC will conduct the by-elections in line with established standards, allowing every voter to make their choice confidently,” she said.

These by-elections follow vacancies created due to various reasons, including deaths and resignations of sitting members of parliament.

The contests in Magarini, Mbeere North, Ugunja, and Malava are considered crucial for local representation, with multiple Broad-Based candidates vying for the seats.

Past electoral cycles in these regions have occasionally experienced tension, making voter education and security measures a key focus for authorities.

Passaris also called on Kenyans to pray for peace before, during, and after the polls, reminding citizens that “your vote is your voice” and should be exercised wisely.

Her statement aligns with ongoing campaigns by civil society groups and election monitors advocating for non-violent participation and respect for electoral outcomes.

Voters are expected to report to polling stations early, and the IEBC has deployed officials across the four constituencies to manage the process efficiently.

Security presence has been strengthened, particularly in areas that previously witnessed political clashes, to guarantee smooth and uninterrupted voting.

The by-elections are being closely watched as they offer insights into the political mood ahead of the 2027 general elections.
