Lawyer Nelson Havi has issued a public advisory urging voters in Malava, Mbeere, Magarini, and Ugunja constituencies to exercise their rights responsibly during the ongoing by-elections.

Speaking on Tuesday, Havi emphasized the importance of electing Members of Parliament who demonstrate competence and integrity.

In a statement, Havi reminded Kenyans that their vote is sovereign and should not be influenced by government-led intimidation or the distribution of incentives.

“The People SHALL. The People MAY,” he affirmed, stressing that the electorate holds ultimate authority in choosing representatives who serve public interests.

These by-elections come amid heightened political activity following the passing or resignation of sitting MPs in these areas.

Historically, voter bribery and inducement have been cited as challenges in by-elections, particularly in constituencies across Western and Eastern Kenya. Havi’s intervention highlights ongoing concerns over fair electoral conduct and the need for vigilance against manipulative tactics.

Election officials have deployed security and monitoring teams to ensure a smooth voting process.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has also encouraged citizens to report any cases of voter bribery, coercion, or irregularities at polling stations.

Local leaders and civil society groups have echoed Havi’s call for ethical participation, emphasizing the long-term impact of MPs on constituency development, budget allocation, and public accountability.

As polling continues throughout the day, authorities report a steady turnout in most constituencies. Security agencies remain on alert to prevent disruptions, while Havi and other civic leaders continue to monitor proceedings.

Confirmed results will be released by the IEBC after counting, expected later this week.
