Kileleshwa Ward MCA Robert Alai has fired back at Suba North MP Millie Mabona, disputing her claim that Nairobi politicians, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, remain in opposition because of the city’s political dynamics.

During an interview with NTV, Mabona argued that Sifuna and Owino are not aligned with the broad-based government due to the nature of Nairobi politics, which she described as “always in the opposition” to protect their interests.

Alai, in a response posted on X, questioned Mabona’s interpretation of the city’s political alignment, citing the 2022 general elections.

“Raila (ODM) was supported by Uhuru (Jubilee) for the 2022 elections. Twelve of Nairobi’s 17 constituencies basically went to the government in 2022.

Azimio Coalition won the Nairobi City County Assembly seats. What is this idle mind even talking about? Apart from the politics of gender, what does she understand?” he wrote.

The dispute highlights the ongoing political tensions in Nairobi, where the city’s electoral outcomes often contrast with national government alignments.

In 2022, while the presidency went to William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance, ODM and Jubilee collaborated in several constituencies, including key Nairobi areas, reflecting a more complex political landscape than a simple opposition alignment.

Alai’s rebuttal reflects a broader debate within political circles about how Nairobi representatives navigate party affiliations while responding to constituents’ expectations.

Both Sifuna and Owino have remained vocal critics of the national government, despite past collaborations between their party and Kenya Kwanza government.
