Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa has urged the Luo community to think carefully before supporting Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the 2027 presidential election, warning that such a move could shift power toward Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political camp.
Through a post on X, Barasa claimed that electing Kalonzo would effectively grant Raila Odinga’s top hater, impeached Rigathi Gachagua, and his ethnic enclave 50% control of the next government.
He described the outcome as dangerous, insisting that it would undermine the democratic balance the late Raila Odinga had long fought for.
Barasa’s caution was sparked by Kalonzo’s recent trip to Siaya County, where he visited the home of the late opposition leader and paid his respects at his gravesite in Bondo.
The move drew attention from across the political divide, with many viewing it as a deliberate effort by Kalonzo to appeal to Raila’s loyal supporters in Nyanza.
The legislator, known for his close ties to President William Ruto, argued that the Luo community should not be swayed by symbolic gestures but should instead assess the long-term implications of their political choices.
He suggested that a Kalonzo-Gachagua alliance would weaken opposition voices and hand a share of power to individuals who, in his view, were openly hostile to Raila’s ideals.
Gachagua has previously been criticized by ODM supporters for repeatedly attacking Raila Odinga, especially during and after the 2022 elections.
Barasa used this history to justify his warning, portraying Gachagua as a figure whose influence in government would be detrimental to Raila’s legacy.
